Digging through my stash looking for potential "organ donors" for my HP spectrum analyzers, I stumbled across a handmade box built by a former colleague. Hmm, my handwriting says "2,1 to 8,3 GHz Yig Oscillator" on its top, a good opportunity to test it with my recently repaired HP 8562A spectrum analyzer! Et voilą, it oscillates! Curious to see what's inside, I open the box and I'm greeted by a yig tuned oscillator built by Philips / Sivers Lab. Its part number is "PM7020".
The electronics inside the box looks rather vintage and has a smell of dead fish to it, seems the caps have seen better days.
As I'm certain the yto driver circuit is far from noise and ripple free, I don't feel like keeping the box and electronics. Nowadays a non synthesized signal source is of little value, at least in my opinion.
A quick google search for this part number reveals ... absolutely nothing! So if anyone stumbles across one, too, here are some of the specs I measured:
Tuning range | 2.1 to 8.3 GHz without dropouts |
Supply voltage | -5V (gate bias) and +15 V (never apply +15 without -5 !)) |
Heater voltage | 15 Volts |
Main coil resistance | 15 ohms |
Output power | +10 dBm |
